Fall Internships
ORGANIZATION PROFILE: An Orchard internship offers applicants a unique hands-on experience in the exciting and fast-growing field of digital media distribution. We seek full- and part-time interns willing to dedicate 15-40 hours a week to assist these departments for Fall (Sep-Dec), Spring (Jan-May) and Summer (May-August). Applicants must receive school credit for their internship.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Retail Marketing: Assist the Retail Marketing team in tracking and analyzing promotional placements for The Orchard's catalog across retail stores. To build and update structured formats for tracking such promotional placements, and assist in the communication process of placements across marketing and label relations teams. Updating The Orchard's backend systems with relevant marketing information. Creation of playlists etc. from The Orchard's catalog which support promotional opportunities at retail partners. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential. Familiarity of Photoshop is a plus.
New Media Marketing: Daily contributions to our blog, research web stats, assemble information for newsletters that are sent to writers and programmers; promo CD mailings; tracking and compiling screenshots of Orchard music features on websites; opportunity to contribute creative ideas for marketing campaigns. Experience with Dreamweaver a plus, but not necessary. Must be an avid writer.
Public Relations: Assist with tracking and compiling daily coverage reports, including news articles of interest; maintaining and updating department press database; updating marketing collateral materials; researching press and conference speaking opportunities; and drafting press releases and advisories, with opportunity for light media pitching. Intern should be internet and news media savvy. Strong writing and copyediting skills needed. Familiarity with trends in digital music, video and mobile preferred. Working knowledge of FileMaker Pro, PowerPoint and Photoshop a plus.
Audio and Video Operations: Assisting with digital archive management of music and video catalog; quality control of assets and meta-data; encoding, processing, and delivery of audio and video to various digital retail outlets; assisting with special data projects. Must have knowledge of various audio and video formatting, encoding and compression technologies (mp3, wma, aac, etc), basic knowledge of windows file and directory structures, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with ftp and sftp protocols, and proficiency in Excel/Access a plus, but not necessary. Final Cut Pro experience a plus.
Creative Services and Film/TV Licensing: Help to research, assemble and write newsletters that are sent to music supervisors and store programmers; maintain contact database; research publishing for the creative team and log track information; assist in mailings of samplers to film and television executives; scour Orchard catalogue for playlist and compilation ideas; assist various departments including marketing, new media and creative licensing with music fulfillment; read and analyze film, television, advertising and video game trade magazines and newsletters for relevant information. Experience with Photoshop and/or Dreamweaver a plus, but not necessary; an understanding of trends in music and other entertainment media a must.
Licensing: Intern will be responsible for researching songwriter and publishing information for The Orchard's vast catalog and obtaining DPD and ringtone/ringback licenses for thousands of compositions. This internship will greatly expand the intern's knowledge of the publishing industry's landscape and business practices, and provide a rock-solid foundation for building a career in any sort of music licensing. Intern must be familiar with excel and have good problem solving and research skills.
REQUIREMENTS (if any): A genuine love for music, a great attitude, an open mind, an eagerness to learn and a willingness to take initiative, no matter the task. Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel a must. Familiarity with digital music market a plus.
