Council for the National Interest
Research and Policy Assistant
ORGANIZATION PROFILE: Council for the National Interest is a non-profit, non-partisan grassroots organization advocating a new direction for U.S. Middle East policy. Our mission is to implement a U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East that is consistent with American values, protects our national interests, and contributes to a just solution of the Arab-Israel conflict. Our goals include a total withdrawal of Israel from all occupied territory, a shared Jerusalem, and end to Israeli acts of aggression and provocation against her neighbors, American recognition of the independent state of Palestine, and a reduction of U.S. aid to Israel.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Intern duties will primarily include meeting with Congressional offices on U.S. Middle East relations, following up with those offices with appropriate information, letters and visits, and informing CNI members of those visits, encouraging them to take direct action with their member of Congress. In addition, interns will research information about relevant advocacy issues, updating informational brochures and the website to be given to Congressional offices. Interns will also coordinate the CNI newsletter publication, which will primarily report to our members about CNI activities on Capital Hill and around the country, as well as provide members with an opportunity for activism. Knowledge on Middle East issues and U.S. Israel relations is helpful but not necessary. Required is a desire to learn and be involved in a just Middle East solution. Also helpful is Pagemaker and web design experience. This however, is not required.
