Internships for Academic Credit in Washington, D.C.
ORGANIZATION PROFILE: The Washington Center works with 500 colleges and universities and has over 35,000 alumni in leadership positions throughout the U.S. and other countries. TWC guarantees all students furnished housing—typically in attractive and conveniently-located high-rise apartment buildings in Northern Virginia and Maryland. Over 75% of students receive financial assistance which offsets their program and housing costs. The program operates year-round, with fall and spring semesters and a summer term, as well as quarter terms.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Washington Center (TWC) offers college and university students in all majors substantive internships in fields of their choice, as well as academic coursework and related activities. Placements are tailored to students' interests and may be with the governmental, business, nonprofit, or international organizations. Students typically receive a full semester's or term's worth of credit from their home institutions--and gain invaluable real-world work experience that substantially strengthens their chances in the competition for jobs or graduate and professional school admission.
REQUIREMENTS (if any): If you are applying through an accredited U.S. institution to any program except the Postgraduate Professional Development Program (for those who have graduated within the past 18 months and do not need to have evaluations mailed to their home institutions), you must:
- Be enrolled in an accredited college or university as a second semester sophomore or above during the term of your internship. Graduate students receiving credit are also eligible.
- Maintain a grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. If your GPA is below 2.75 you need to provide a third recommendation letter. Higher GPAs (minimum 3.0) may be required for specific internship placements.
- Receive academic credit from your college or university for your participation in the internship program. The Washington Center does not grant academic credit.
- Receive the endorsement of your campus liaison, or, if your institution does not have a campus liaison, the endorsement of a faculty sponsor. You must see this person BEFORE your begin your application. If you are unsure who this person is, please email info@twc.edu.
