ORGANIZATION PROFILE: The DACTYL Foundation for the Arts & Humanities is a not-for-profit organization that offers awards and opportunities to artists and writers. Architecturally unique, this gallery/performance space is unlike any in SoHo.

Statement of Purpose: The Dactyl Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1996 in the early evening of the postmodern day. Our purpose is to encourage the view that there is a place for artistic intention even in a world without telos. Our programs are designed to develop an aesthetic that is informed by science, history and philosophy and that takes into consideration both the intellectual and intuitive responses to art.

Current Programs: Visual Art Exhibitions, Screening Room, Poetry Series, Lectures and Panel on Aesthetics

The Board of Directors include; Victoria N. Alexander, literary critic and author of Smoking Hopes, winner of the Washington Prize for Fiction; Neil Grayson, artist and curator of visual art exhibitions; Patrick Markey, film producer and theater director, currently producing The Horse Whisperer; Sidney Smolowitz, attorney for the foundation; David J., Sussman, collector, president of Art Classics LLC; John J.E. Swaine, CEO of the Media Bank, Hong Kong barrister of the law chambers of Sir John J. Swaine.
